Kobe Bryant was one of the many personalities who mourned the death of Michael Jackson, with whom he maintained a strong friendship. But now, the Lakers star said that oddly enough, the''King of Pop''was key to their success in sports in the NBA.
Bryant, who actively participated in Jackson's funeral last year, said the singer was his mentor and protector when he arrived with 18 years in the NBA.
Speaking to yahoo.sports, published by Spanish daily Marca, the athlete said the late artist''realized that I was kidding about being different. Michael Jackson helped me reach the level to win three consecutive titles playing with Shaquille O'Neal.''
Bryant says he often visited Neverland to hear the singer talk about achievement, ambition and mentality to succeed. ''May sound odd, but Michael Jackson really was my mentor'', says the Lakers guard.
